Emerald Isle Surf Shop (or EI Surf Shop) is your classic "core" local surf shop located
along the 25-mile long island of Bogue Banks, in central North Carolina. We offer a full range
of services and products including surfboard & kayak rentals, surfing lessons, surfboard and SUP
sales, great guys & girls clothing, tons of surf accessories, a complete skateboard department,
ding repairs, and much more. We also consistently post daily surf reports on SwellInfo
and EastCoastSurf.
The shop is housed in a standalone building constructed in the
1960s and located in one of the older, historic parts of Emerald Isle - in very close proximity to
the site of the Old Emerald Isle Pier, which used to hold one of the best breaks on the island.
The N.C. Aquariums recently announced plans to build a concrete pier at this same location, which
should be completed in 2012-13.
EI Surf Shop is owned and operated by the Rudolph family, who also completely remodeled the interior
of the shop in 2008. Stephanie carries most of the management load for the shop and greets customers
with classic southern charm while Rudi also tends to his work duties as Carteret County's Shore Protection
Manager. Rudi prepares a monthly surf article on behalf of the shop entitled "off the lip" that is published
in the Crystal Coast Outdoors Magazine and is also fortunate to contribute regularly to the highly respected
SurfCarolina magazine. Stephanie and Rudi's young son Grayson is the apple of their eye and can be regularly
seen at the shop helping mom and dad.
